Hello, my name is Alexzandra, and I have been working in healthcare for 10 years, primarily in Long Term Care and Hospice Care. Throughout my career, I have gained valuable experience in caring for people and their families during the last moment in life, which has helped shape both my professional and personal life.
In addition to my work in Kamloops, Canada, I had the opportunity to work in Rome, Italy, as an Au Pair for one year. This experience allowed me to develop certain life skills such as independence, communication, and cultural awareness. Having the opportunity to work in another country has broadened my understanding of working with people who do not speak the same language and share the same customs.
During the third year of nursing school at Thompson Rivers University, I also completed a placement in Duhlikhel, Nepal, where I gained hands-on experience across various healthcare settings, including the emergency department, operating room, pediatrics, and home health.
These experiences have not only shaped me as an individual but have also influenced my perspectives on healthcare and the dying process in different cultures. They have helped me develop a strong appreciation for patient-centred care and cultural safety, and continue to motivate me to grow as a lifelong learner.
