Introduction

Hello, my name is Alexzandra. I have had the opportunity to gain a variety of international travel and cultural experiences that have helped me qualify for the Global Competency Certificate. These experiences include nearly 10 years working as a Health Care Assistant in long-term care and hospice facilities, supporting individuals and families through aging and end-of-life care. I also spent one year living and working in Rome, Italy, as an au pair, which allowed me to experience daily life within another country and culture. I have also taken five courses related to the Global Competency Certificate and its related categories. Finally, during my third year of nursing school, I had the opportunity to complete a clinical placement at Dhulikhel Hospital in Nepal across various areas, including the operating room, medical units, and community care.

These experiences have not only shaped who I am as a person but have also influenced how I view health, healthcare systems and ways of life. My global health experiences have grown my appreciation for family-centred care, cultural humility, and the importance of lifelong learning.
